Into the Sand

The crashing of waves
The clashing of steel
As men battle by the sea
Spreading back along
The bloody sand
The ravens start to feed

The tang of salt
The reek of blood
The cries of dying men
A dull thudding
Of a horse’s hooves
Galloping down the sand

Night falls slow
One lone figure
Remains standing on the shore
Gazing blank eyed
At the death about
Wondering what he was fighting for

When the sun rose
Early the next day
The man was lying dead
Not one soul
Was left to fight
Into to the sand they bled

Twisted Tales

Three little pigs went out one day
Were caught by a butcher and brutally slain
Never again did the pigs complain
About the big bad wolf who wouldn’t go away

Little Red Riding Hood grabbed the treats
Basket on her arm she was tidy and neat
Out in the forest she was too slow on her feet
Pounced on from behind the wolf started to eat

Hansel and Gretel in a sweet cake hut
Gretel’s back swollen in welts and cuts
She weeps silently when Hansel’s time is up
The witch cackled loud when she spills his guts

Young flying Peter from another land
Dueling back and forth on the white beach sand
With a pirate who sports a black hook for hand
The sand turned red with spilled blood of the Pan

Snow White lying still and cold as death
Barely seen is the rise and fall of her chest
Along comes one who steals her breath
Strangled and suffocated Snow White is dead

Twist it, taint it, make it hollow
Take the light and cast it in shadow
Tales told in a voice pitched low
In the flickering light of a candles glow

Flee Yourself

Flee Yourself

Running down a pitch dark track
Isolated, don’t look back
Running on to freedom gained
Running ever from the pain

Never turn to face your foes
Never give in to your woes
Never tackle it head on
Never stop, the road be long

Running on till nearly spent
Only then do you repent
And begin to call for your salvation
While creeps behind you, your damnation

Thoughts come on you in a flood
Memories mingled in your blood
Crooked heart begat your evil
Crooked heart held by the devil

And as the nighttime shadows pass
Finally caught up, here at last
The screaming of your fate arrives
Dragged below by gleaming eyes

Hello

Hello? Can you hear me?
I can see you standing there
Just beyond my peripheral
Playing with your hair
I felt your eyes upon my back
The moment you began to stare
Yet when I turn to face you
You vanish in thin air

Hello? Is that you again?
I just heard the floorboards creak
Sure I am that you’ve begun
To down my hallway creep
The thought of you coming near
Makes my knees go weak
As all alone I imagine
This time we finally speak

Hello? It’s so very late
Is that you sitting near?
I can see a shape on my bed
It’s too dark to see you clear
All this time we’ve lived together
All this time I’ve felt no fear
But it’s oh so late, it’s oh so dark
Why did you come in here?

Hello? Can you let me go?
Wrapped up this sheet
I just want to go to bed
I just want to sleep
Are you too dead and heartless
To hear my frightened screams
My throat is raw from begging you
To please just let me be

Hello? Am I dying now?
I can feel the fresh bites bleed
Why did you decide on me
To sate your carnal needs?
Why did you choose me out
To plant vampiric seeds?
I just want it now to end
And in my death be freed

Hello. We can see you
We are watching day and night
Such fresh flesh and lively eyes
Such a delectable delight
We just may have a snack
A little something light
So just sleep sound and don’t mind us
Creeping through the night

A Land Passed

An ancient ruined
Battered keep
A home for the dead
Hear them weep
Forever here
In eternal sleep
Forever trapped
In a ruined keep

Green grass swaying
Around full grown trees
Spoken softly
On the breeze
Words unheard
Yet understood with ease
As spirits rest
Amongst the trees

All but forgotten
Denizens of this land
Forever untouched
By gods hands
Prisoners in glass
Within times sands
The long dead people
Of this long dead land

Fall From Grace

Floating lights behind my eyes
Thudding pain, pressurized
Wholly sick of coloured lies
Called out loud in honeyed cries

Sink ye further in the pits
Of blackened tar you did dig
Let it glue your puckered lips
Quieten your lies laid on thick

Slick with oil is your voice
But lo, black one, you made your choice
Yet there you stand and make your noise
And think you safe upon your hoist

But come a day you will know
On that day you’ll fall low
And eat the fruits of seeds you sowed
Your fall from grace will sure be slow

Lost Storytellers

How I yearn for days or yore
A time I only know from tales
When storytellers would sit before
An audience in raptured silence

Youth to Gama’s and Gaffa’s aged
Would hear words come to life
Told with voice full of grace
Of adventure, war and glory

A time when ones imagination
Took them to worlds afar
Tellers wove for them destinations
And they rode there on captured hearts

How I yearn for those times again
That I know only from tales
When for an audience one would wend
A path through distant lands

Passing the Eucalypt

Long brown dugite
Slithers softly
Through the grass with ease
Rustling whispers
From tumbling passing
Windblown summer leaves

Shadows cast
Upon the ground
From soft clouds above
Racing swiftly
The wedge tailed eagle
Driven by the hunt

Birds trill loudly
From golden boughs
Of the great eucalyptus tree
Kookaburra pair
Upon its crown
Laughing light and free

Bounding past
Broad yet graceful
A troop of big red roo’s
Heading home
With the sunset
In groups of three’s and two’s

When twilight sets
Dark and peaceful
Come possums out to play
Until red sun rises
At the dawn
Of another bush land day

Hunted

On this night
This silent night
Dark clouds dim the moon
And cast the land in shadow

On this flight
This tiresome flight
Weariness eats at me
My muscles gone to stone

On this hunt
This deadly hunt
I wonder if I’ll die
And be dragged to depths below

They have come
Have always come
I’m fleeing like a hare
No safe place to call my home

Shaped of shadows
Always peering
Always leering
Always nearing
Wither shall I go?

Last Farewell

Here I watch you walk away
At the ending of our last day
So many things my heart would say
If only you were able to stay

Instead with you I will send
All the care for you, my friend
Your memory in my heart I’ll tend
Now we have passed this bitter end

Be there cloudy or sunny skies
Ever they’ll remind me your eyes
And ever I’ll watch for the signs
That you still wander in my life

So go now friend be always free
And may you smile at the thought of me
As I will smile at the memory
Of our times together, so carefree
