Spring Surrounds

Springs surround

Standing here in Springs surround

Blooming coloured life abounds

Whisper kisses in a gentle waft

That send butterflies to flutter aloft

A lone pink petal drifts smoothly down

In my newly blooming spring surrounds

Cradled warm in Springs surround

While dappled shadows dance around

Through lazy swishing new green leaves

As they too feel the sweetly breeze

Majestic sunlight filters down

A calming peace in my Spring surrounds

Senses swimming in Springs surround

A hidden bird sings a trilling sound

Safely obscured by budding branches

Succumbing to springs sultry advances

Blooming coloured life abounds

In my slow to waking Spring surrounds

Speeding years

He held her gently and began to cry

This twinkling apple in his eye

She breathed a softly whispered sigh

And his years began speeding by

Before he blinked she was walking

Next he knew she was always talking

Such joy she found in asking why

As his years went speeding by

On her first day of school he was full of pride

Tears of joy he shamelessly cried

It seemed the next day she stood shoulder high

As the years still went speeding by

She graduated and his heart swelled

He asked her to sit for a spell

So they sat and they talked for a little while

And his years continued speeding by

She was married with children and loving life

He remembered her glowing when she became a wife

Now his grandchildren filled his eyes

And her years were suddenly speeding by

The Serpent

By Aarron Mondello

3/12/2017

The fork tongued serpent
With poison speech
Never repentant
As it seeks
To pour sickly honey
In your ears
And gain your loyalty
Through your fears
Spiting viscous lies
From its lips
While in disguise
It calmly sits
Feigning intentions
Pure and true
There will not be redemption
When it’s through
You’ll cast aside
Those close and dear
And draw the poison
Serpent near
Finally when
You’re brought down low
It’ll shed it’s skin
And let you know
It takes great delight
In your fall from grace
So stay vigilant for
The Serpents Face.

The Fountain

By Aarron Mondello

2/12/2017

High upon a mountain
Built an age ago
Stands a marble fountain
That no longer flows

It’s said that in the past
Under the myriad stars
The crystal water flowed clear and fast
Pilgrims came from afar

They sipped the pristine droplets
As they knelt upon the ground
Lips pressed to a golden goblet
Their prayers barely made a sound

Tis said that if the gods were listening
When the travelers spoke their woes
A comet with its tail a glistening
Would be the sign to know

Heavy hearted many left
When no sign did they spy
Some would even jump from the cliff
When no comet graced the starlit skies

Upon one night way up high
A travellers question asked
For the well to come up dry
And it trickled that night its last

Why he asked this under the moon
No body can ever say
But the gods saw fit to grant his boon
And the fountain still runs dry today.

What would you do?

By Aarron Mondello

29/11/2017

What would you do
If you woke up one day
To find all you’d known
Had been spirited away

All of your family and friends
In some unknown place
No where to be seen
Not one familiar face

Only strangers eyes
Everywhere that you walk
Each one as lifeless
As body outlined in chalk

Even the houses you pass
Look different and strange
Did god reach down from the clouds
And your world rearrange

Would you search for your family
Would you look for your friends
Or would you mourn then accept
Your old life has come to an end

Now what would you do
If you woke up one night
Tied to a cold table
With no one in sight

A light flickering weak
Yellow above your head
A small bench to the left
Fills you with dread

A scalpel and forceps
A knife and a hook
To terrified to stare
But where else do you look

A figure appears
At the edge of the gloom
Blood spatters their apron
Looking like roses in bloom

What would you do
When they pick up the knife
Would you hope to go quietly
Or beg for your life

Tell me what would you do
If one sunny afternoon
You happen to look up
And saw a crack in the moon

The tides would crazy
Without their guiding hand
Looters and violence
Ravage the land

All morals thrown out
It’s now flight or fight
In this destructive new world
Only meanest survive

The weak are cast down
And ruled over as slaves
Bent, broken and used
For the rest of their days

Would you fight to survive
And kill to remain on your feet
Would you live as property
Or one of the “elite”

Now just once more I ask
What would you do
If you looked about yourself
To find all your dreams had come true

Terror and fear
Still thriving abroad
But in your perfect kingdom
You are the lord

No goal is there left
You’ve achieved them all
Testaments to your success
Adorned every wall

Would a feeling so hollow
Spread through your chest
Now all your dreams have come true
There’s not one of them left

Would you relax and enjoy
The kingdom you’ve built
Would you see those less fortunate
And feel any guilt

How would you cope
If your life suddenly changed
Adapt or accept
Or madness deranged.

Things I Always Say

By Aarron Mondello

20/11/2017

If you take a book off my shelf
Put it back in the same space
If you watch one of my movies
Put it back it’s right case
If you empty the toilet roll
Put another in its place
If you think you’re eating dinner here
Best go wash you hands and face
If you’re inside walk don’t run
It’s not a bloody race
If you’re going out today
Behave with with a bit of grace
If you’re putting sneakers on
Don’t forget to tie the lace
If you’re putting flowers on my table
Use the silver vase
If I call you then please come here
Don’t make me give chase
If you speak don’t lie to me
It really is a disgrace
And if you mess up and I chastise you
Don’t make that bloody face
If you listened I wouldn’t have to          Repeat myself all day

For Me

By Aarron Mondello

20/11/2017

The fog rolls over
The air grows heavy
So does my heart
I’m not ready
To put it all out there
So I keep it all here
Where it’s safe
And only for me

The rain pours down
I feel like I’ll drown
In others expectations
But here’s a revelation
I don’t need your permission
Or justification
To walk this path
That’s only for me

Is it selfish?
I don’t relish
In brushing others aside
But I must ride
This rollercoaster
The end draws closer
To when I finally
Act only for me

A Haunting

By Aarron Mondello

19/11/2017

A Haunting.

Late last night home alone
I was sitting on the sofa
When behind me I heard a sorrowful moan
And footsteps coming closer

Instantly I jumped up scared
And looked behind me in the room
Nothing did I see there
Bar shadows cast in from the moon

I told myself it was just
My imagination
I told myself that I must
Quit drugs use in recreation

Convinced that I was just a fool
I resumed my comfy place
When there came the feel of something cool
Sliding down my face

I cried out in alarm
And jumped quickly up again
Painfully knocking my left arm
On the couches wooden end

I grabbed my throbbing elbow
And peered into the gloom
I could hear a dry laugh echo
In the shadows around the room

“Whose there” I squeaked
Sounding like a frightened child
I will admit I was more than freaked
My imagination running wild

It was then the TV turned up loud
I turned slowly round to stare
And what I saw shifting like a cloud
There was a spectre standing there

I closed my eyes shut tight
I shook my head in disbelief
It surely was just a trick in the night
My mind surely was diseased

When I looked again the ghost was gone
I walked up to the TV
I reached out a hand to turn it down
And a jolt ran straight through me

I yelled loud, the pain was sharp
I heard a fizzle and a zap
The TV exploded sending shards
Stabbing right into my hand

I cried out and stumbled back
Tears unbidden came in a flood
Yet when I looked down at my hand
There was no glass, no cuts, no blood.

The TV was fine and whole
‘It had to be in my mind’
I thought until in the darkened hall
The grandfather clock began to chime

Well past the count of twelve it went
DING DING DING DING
And when I went to the hall investigate
I was assaulted by a foul wind

It stank of death and rot this wind
And blew strong from within the walls
On it rode madness chanting
Lusting for my entrails

It blew so hard it knocked me down
I landed painfully on my back
I was to scared to get off the ground
Until I spied the widening crack

Moving swiftly along the plaster ceiling
From with glowed an eerie light
I was struck numb with the feeling
That tonight I was going to die

I jumped up and ran
Towards the rear door
As I went I could hear
Something wet splat on the floor

I looked back when I reached the door
Peering over my shoulder
The vision there that I saw
Made my skin grow colder

Mother dear long in her grave
Dripping luminescent green slime
Half the skin rotting from her face
Wearing a twisted rotting smile

This was it the end for me
I shut my eyes and began to scream
The suddenly the world went quiet
And held its breath it seemed to me

I sank down against the wood
My mind a babbling mess
Then despite myself I closed my eyes
And fell into a tortured rest

I woke with a start near 2am
Still sitting on the floor
And there I stayed the rest of the night
Against the cool back door

For the rest of that eerie night
Not a single thing moved
Except my ever darting eyes
And the slowly crawling moon

And now this today as the sun sets
And the house grows slowly darker
My heartbeats wildly as I fret
At the thought of a spirits cackling laughter.

A Date with the Devil

By Aarron Mondello

18/11/2017

Fi Di diddly dun
Come with me let’s have some fun
Cavorting leaping in the sun
Fornicating ’til the day is done

Fi Di diddly do
Come on now it’s just me and you
Searching seeking under the moon
Oh such wicked things we’ll do

Fi di diddly dil
Together we shall taste the thrill
Together we will make the kill
You and I have blood to spill

Fi Di diddly dair
Come my love don’t look so scared
Wipe those tears off your cheeks so fair
Then follow me close to my lair

Fi Di diddly Di
Pass with me under the sky
Secure under my watchful eye
Here with me I’ll help you die

Fi Di diddly dome
You’ll rot here forever all alone
Corrupted here so far from home
And now your soul is my own

Fi Di diddly dell
I have a secret I will tell
In your afterlife you can dwell
On the knowledge that I came from hell.
