Speeding years

He held her gently and began to cry

This twinkling apple in his eye

She breathed a softly whispered sigh

And his years began speeding by

Before he blinked she was walking

Next he knew she was always talking

Such joy she found in asking why

As his years went speeding by

On her first day of school he was full of pride

Tears of joy he shamelessly cried

It seemed the next day she stood shoulder high

As the years still went speeding by

She graduated and his heart swelled

He asked her to sit for a spell

So they sat and they talked for a little while

And his years continued speeding by

She was married with children and loving life

He remembered her glowing when she became a wife

Now his grandchildren filled his eyes

And her years were suddenly speeding by

Words

Do you have some sad words

That I can put down on this page

Or perhaps some fiery angry words

That make you scream and rage

Where are your profound words

To make me stop and think

To challenge all my beliefs

And place them on the brink

What about your jealous words

Tinged with hues of green

Or melancholy bittersweet

Words of things you’ve seen

Can you find some words for me

Of joyful laughing times

Heady happy memories

That I can fashion into rhymes

Sit a while and tell me words

Of all things in your head

Words that I can twist and turn

Into tales to be read

6pm

6pm

I can hear the screaming

Some beasts infernal bleating

What could be the meaning

Of these screams that aren’t retreating

Look out through the door

Down a slightly shadowed hall

My  stomach on the floor

Towards me demons crawl

My knees are weak and knocking

The sight is more than shocking

To left and right heads cocking

Wearing smiles that are mocking

Sweat on my forehead’s beading

What are these demons needing

Insights flash revealing…

My children just need feeding

My Sleeping Loves

I see them sleeping peaceful
No lines upon their face
Features set blissful
Nowhere any trace
Can be found of stress
Or any heart sore care
When deep within their rest
None can touch them there
When one I love sleeps sound
Lost in a world of dreams
Affection swells profound
Bursting at the seams
And I see the true beauty
Of a soul travelling free
I feel it is my duty
To protect them in their dreams

Summer Girl

Sitting thinking Summer Girl
What thoughts twirl through your mind?
Before you lies the entire world
What wonders will you find?

I see you hiding Summer Child
For you shine bright as day
With your spreading laughter tinkling mild
What do your smiles say?

I see you smiling Summer woman
My heart like you is growing
I’ll watch you like a strong rose blossom
And see the Summer Girl still showing

Weekend children

By Aarron Mondello

6/2/2018

The weekend is here
The kids are home
There’s laughter in the air
Nope. That’s screaming
And siblings fighting
Yelling “Hey that’s just not fair!”

The Little One
Starts acting up
For him it’s just no fun
When the others all
Shut their doors
And leave him on his own

So he packs it in
And chucks a fit
Then drops down on his bum
Starts to cry
And scream out loud
That he just wants his mum

But she’s at work
And he’s not happy
Neither is the Eldest Girl
His screaming fit
Outside her room
Is ruining her whole world

The middle two
Come out and ask
“Hey dad, what’s wrong with him?”
“Well ya buggered off
And shut your door
And will not let him in”

Miss Princess
Kneels down
But Little One is pissed
He takes a swipe
At her face
I’m so glad he missed

She starts to shout
But he turns around
“Oh dad I need wee wee”
But it’s too late
For as he stands
It’s running down his knees

The Oldest Boy
Looks disgusted
So far he’s stood there quiet
Now he snaps
At the Little One
“You should have used the toilet!”

Now there’s a puddle
I must clean
In the carpeted Hall
While all around me
All four are demanding
No wonder I’m going bald

I get it done
Now they’re all fighting
I decide its movie time
I put one on
Turn off the light
Now to get my bottle of wine

Angel Baby

By Aarron Mondello

1/2/2018

Good morning Angel Baby
I see you sitting there
Far above me in the heavens
In a rainbow rocking chair

I miss you Angel Baby
I wish that you were home
There’s been a hole in my heart
From the moment you were gone

I still hold you Angel Baby
Every moment in my heart
Can you feel my embrace
From your home among the stars

I still love you Angel Baby
With every breath I take
Some days I feel the emptiness
Is more than I can face

Can I see you Angel Baby
Sometimes I can it seems
In photographs all around
And always in my dreams

Where you are Angel Baby
I pray you’re not alone
One day I’ll come there to you
On that day I’m coming home
