Devils Night

Skeletal rattling in my ear

Whispering to me words of fear

While from the shadows demons leer

And downward turned is the Dark Moons sneer

Somewhere behind me comes a crunching

What shadow bred beast be munching

I turn around and see it slouching

Over death, a silhouette is crouching

I spin and run on leaden feet

Laughter echoes down the street

Of such surprise awaited me

As from the Dark Moon I did flee

In front of me did alight

A beast to behold a fearsome sight

Plucked from the bowels of this Dark Mooned night

I halted there full of fright

It opened up its slimy maw

Serrated teeth therein I saw

A creature outside nature’s law

The beast reached out a devil’s claw

Shameful tears of hate I cried

Away from baleful eyes I shied

When it spoke to me of how heaven lied

In the lilting tones of my dead bride

I roared primal rage through flowing tears

And saw shock replace the demons sneer

I launched myself like a spear

And felt above the Dark Moons fear

I pounded hard into the beast

Tearing at it with nails and teeth

And when it’s thrashing finally ceased

I set my vicious anger free

And for what was left of that Dark Mooned night

Until dawn spread it’s pale light

I felled each beast that came in sight

While the Dark Moon quaked on its velvet height

The End

Forlorn they cry where shadows lie
And husbands leave the home
Sons and brothers, uncles and fathers,
Across a dead land roam

Skies of black above their backs
Shoulders hunched by woe
A weary tred as legions head
To face the tyrant foe

For rest they yearn while fires burn
Beacons on the horizon
Terror signs of evil times
And shadow hordes arising

A shifting cloak of boiling smoke
An acrid rotting smell
Hid beasts of death with poisonous breath
Eyes lit with fires of hell

Face to face with weapons raised
In a land gone black with blight
Brave men roared when arrows soared
Shadows called delight

On that field did no man yield
Each and all were slain
The shadow hordes and Midnight Lords
Marched on to bloody reign

Fractured

Fractured

Sharpened claws digging in

Serrated edges tearing skin

Screaming loud for attention

Haunted voices of addiction

Darkness in the mind abides

Darkness wherein serpents slide

Screaming out for sustenance

Words tinged with childish truculence

Tremors quaking, heaving the world

Rocking the ground, all sense hurled

To lay broken against a shattered heart

Obsidian psyche torn apart

Pestered and badgered by a thousand voices

Stumbling blindly through a thousand choices

In confusion drowning fast

Swearing fealty to a splintered past

Jealousy in the constant scorned

Forgotten smiles lay never mourned

Contradictions in hidden dreams

Fractures bridged with rotted seams

Last Night

I saw your eyes in the shadowed night
Shining with an inner light
And all my fears washed away
When I saw in your eyes you meant to stay

You tickled my neck with your whispers
As softly spoken as velvet slippers
The promises you made caused me to sweat
Sultry sentences with veiled threat

And as we lay in the pale moonlight
Your glowing skin a beautiful sight
Nothing could prepare me for what came next
You plunged a dagger into my chest

A gurgling rattle sounded my last breath
I lay with you and succumbed to death
The last thing I saw as I finally died
Your gleeful smile spreading wide

A Land Passed

An ancient ruined
Battered keep
A home for the dead
Hear them weep
Forever here
In eternal sleep
Forever trapped
In a ruined keep

Green grass swaying
Around full grown trees
Spoken softly
On the breeze
Words unheard
Yet understood with ease
As spirits rest
Amongst the trees

All but forgotten
Denizens of this land
Forever untouched
By gods hands
Prisoners in glass
Within times sands
The long dead people
Of this long dead land

Hunted

On this night
This silent night
Dark clouds dim the moon
And cast the land in shadow

On this flight
This tiresome flight
Weariness eats at me
My muscles gone to stone

On this hunt
This deadly hunt
I wonder if I’ll die
And be dragged to depths below

They have come
Have always come
I’m fleeing like a hare
No safe place to call my home

Shaped of shadows
Always peering
Always leering
Always nearing
Wither shall I go?

Shadow Thoughts

In the dark of night when shadows roam

I feel alone

In the quiet sleepiness of my home

Where all the shadows roam

In the midnight hour they wake

Creeping sneaking sounds they make

I pray softly they don’t take

Me, to the shores of their dead lake

Through the darkened halls they come

Putrid evil songs they hum

While I hide and hope someone

Will save me before the night is done

As I cower in my bed

I envision scenes of dread

And all about the Shadows tred

Shadows that live in my own head

Dark plane

A hollow wind blew through the cracks
Of the dusty, dry, grey ground
It sent a shiver down my back
That dreadful groaning sound

Below the black hill where I stood
Colourless spectres roamed
Towards a far off darkened woods
Down a broken road

Above my head the sky hung dreary
With heavy bottomed clouds
Just to see them made me weary
As they drizzled cold rain down

I turned up my collar against the rain
And started for the trees
For I live now on this dark astral plain
With its sorrowful moaning breeze

I gained the plateau at the base
Of they great tall darkened hill
There I met a man with out a face
Though he made for the forest still

With jerky movements in slow motion
They all trod their path on
I was hit with a startling notion
That all I saw was wrong

For here I moved as ever I had
In my waking life
In tattered rags all others were clad
Where I was clothed in white

I began to notice as I passed
All dead eyes turned to me
Fearful I began to run fast
Towards those ominous trees

A screeching and ungodly wailing
Split the eternal night
And against a wall of dead I was railing
With the tree coming nigh

My foot crossed into the forest
And every thing went black
I trembled awaiting some new horror
Then woke up lying on my back

My sheets were plastered to my skin
Sweat coated every inch of me
Through my window dead eyes peered in
A sea of ghosts awaiting me

Astral

The Forest Maiden

By Aarron Mondello

5/2/2018

From the dark forest came a single caw
A warning from a raven
Yet on he drew to a shadows maw
The young man felt no craven

A light wind blew like the breeze of death
And carried the scent of age old pine
It rustled the leaves like a gentle breath
As the young man crossed the shadows line

Forlorn and lonely a distant wolf’s cry
Piercing the silent veil
Above thick branches blocked out the sky
Through which no light could avail

The howl cut off and silence reigned
The forest grew mute and pressing
Through shifting shadows his eyes strained
Against dark trees standing sentry

Came then a whisper at his ear
He whipped his head around
He spied no one in the darkness near
Goosebumps climbed his flesh

On through the forest made of night
Where shadows tricked his eyes
And showed him a woman clothed in white
Beautiful and wise

Flitting between the trees he saw her
She moved without a sound
She ignored his every attempt to call her
A cool mist rose up from the ground

Came again a bare whisper-a word
Follow follow follow
Soft and alluring was the voice he heard
His breath came rapid and shallow

They came at last to a well lit space
A clearing in the trees
She opened her arms to offer embrace
A gesture that drove him to his knees

The fog engulfed that man and maiden
A billowing wall of white
It swallowed whole the man-no craven
Left alone his lady dressed in white

The moon saw all with its pale stare
The Maiden lay on the grass
Her body melted into the air
Until the next young man should pass

Once In A While

By Aarron Mondello

31/1/2018

Once in a while the veil grows thin
Through the unseeable wall the dead peer in
Jostling each other for a view of the living
Existing in torment and dead in their sin

Once in a while a sly one breaks through
Finds a small hole and slips on into
This world we take for granted destroy and abuse
And it joins us in prayer on the wooden church pews

Once in a while one hides in plain sight
Giggling maniacally as it strolls through the night
Relishing in the embrace of the mortal sunlight
Just another pair of eyes in this degenerate life

Once in a while the dead grow too many
Walking this world full of darkness aplenty
Evil in their eyes shine brighter than any
That still walk alive shining their pennies

Once in a while the dead get the urge
To rise up and swell in great numbers and surge
Through the lives of the living and kill, a great purge
Once in a while the dead dream of the Earth
