The Sun-kissed Man II

Calloused hands

Hard and black

Grime and dirt caked in

Dusty jeans

A light blue singlet

Tobacco fills a rusty tin

Sitting in

A rocking chair

On a faded porch

Watching as

The red sun sets

A glaring heaven torch

His body’s tired

His bones ache

His muscles stiff and sore

Yet he will rise

Fresh and ready

With the coming of the dawn

Sitting peaceful

In the twilight

Thinking of the days he roamed

No regrets

The Sun-kissed Man

In his exile all alone

6pm

6pm

I can hear the screaming

Some beasts infernal bleating

What could be the meaning

Of these screams that aren’t retreating

Look out through the door

Down a slightly shadowed hall

My  stomach on the floor

Towards me demons crawl

My knees are weak and knocking

The sight is more than shocking

To left and right heads cocking

Wearing smiles that are mocking

Sweat on my forehead’s beading

What are these demons needing

Insights flash revealing…

My children just need feeding

Fall From Grace

Floating lights behind my eyes
Thudding pain, pressurized
Wholly sick of coloured lies
Called out loud in honeyed cries

Sink ye further in the pits
Of blackened tar you did dig
Let it glue your puckered lips
Quieten your lies laid on thick

Slick with oil is your voice
But lo, black one, you made your choice
Yet there you stand and make your noise
And think you safe upon your hoist

But come a day you will know
On that day you’ll fall low
And eat the fruits of seeds you sowed
Your fall from grace will sure be slow

Passing the Eucalypt

Long brown dugite
Slithers softly
Through the grass with ease
Rustling whispers
From tumbling passing
Windblown summer leaves

Shadows cast
Upon the ground
From soft clouds above
Racing swiftly
The wedge tailed eagle
Driven by the hunt

Birds trill loudly
From golden boughs
Of the great eucalyptus tree
Kookaburra pair
Upon its crown
Laughing light and free

Bounding past
Broad yet graceful
A troop of big red roo’s
Heading home
With the sunset
In groups of three’s and two’s

When twilight sets
Dark and peaceful
Come possums out to play
Until red sun rises
At the dawn
Of another bush land day

Last Farewell

Here I watch you walk away
At the ending of our last day
So many things my heart would say
If only you were able to stay

Instead with you I will send
All the care for you, my friend
Your memory in my heart I’ll tend
Now we have passed this bitter end

Be there cloudy or sunny skies
Ever they’ll remind me your eyes
And ever I’ll watch for the signs
That you still wander in my life

So go now friend be always free
And may you smile at the thought of me
As I will smile at the memory
Of our times together, so carefree

Bad words

Bad words

Bad words infesting
The blood digesting
The taint of intended sting

The heart repenting
While the ego’s resenting
And a space grows within

A bond despoiled
By words that boiled
Tinged with societal vanity

A union maimed
Torn in twain
In just a moment of insanity

Garden of life

In the garden where flowers grow
Planted are the seeds of life
Mother Nature can best show
Harmony in perfect strife

In every bending leaf and branch
In every fading flower
In beads of water on the sand
After every little shower

In every ray of summer sun
In every gasp of winters breath
In every sound of springtime fun
In autumns lambent death

In the garden where flowers grow
Bare witness to her magic
Through the seasons her wonder flows
Beautiful and tragic

My Sleeping Loves

I see them sleeping peaceful
No lines upon their face
Features set blissful
Nowhere any trace
Can be found of stress
Or any heart sore care
When deep within their rest
None can touch them there
When one I love sleeps sound
Lost in a world of dreams
Affection swells profound
Bursting at the seams
And I see the true beauty
Of a soul travelling free
I feel it is my duty
To protect them in their dreams

Embrace of the Night

I feel the cool nights peaceful embrace
Ethereal arms wrapped about me
A breeze like gentle kisses caress
What skin I have laid bare
And under the smile of a full moon bright
His light piercing my every fiber
Standing as a statue carved in crystal
You’ll always find me there

Wrapped in the nights cool embrace.

Summer Girl

Sitting thinking Summer Girl
What thoughts twirl through your mind?
Before you lies the entire world
What wonders will you find?

I see you hiding Summer Child
For you shine bright as day
With your spreading laughter tinkling mild
What do your smiles say?

I see you smiling Summer woman
My heart like you is growing
I’ll watch you like a strong rose blossom
And see the Summer Girl still showing
