Voices on the Wind

What if the wind
Was the collective voice
Of every loved one who
Ever passed?

Endless voices of sorrow
Trying their simple best
To answer every question
Ever asked.

I’d listen contentedly
To all of things they’ve seen
And done since they were here
with me last.

Goodnight

I recall well the electrical moons
Grimy flickering street lights
I remember I caught you as you started to swoon
And watched you drift out of my life

Thunder crashed loud in the world around
I swear it called out your name
A wild deity’s calamitous shout
Asking you to His game

The rain fell gently pattering the streets
Slick and shining yellow
With such fear in your eyes you turned slowly to me
You skin gone ashen and sallow

And here I stand in the street again
I stand where you were stolen from me
There I can see your spirit dance in the rain
Weightless, forever carefree

You dance over to me, like gossamer lace
The wind blowing your ethereal hair
Up on your toes you gently kiss my face
A kiss like a tickle of air

You smile at me with bright searching eyes
As you fade again from my sight
Like a breath on my cheek there your fingers lie
In a reflective caress godnight

Directions to Heaven

By Aarron Mondello

8/1/2018

Away and over the mountain pass
Beyond the domed sky blue
Be careful, travel never fast
My darling I’ll wait for you

Go slowly down the far slope
Where grow the Evergreens
There graze majestic antelope
In a land no eyes have seen

Come safely to the Forrest floor
Inviting, ever cool
And seek you out a clear fjord
Across a crystal  pool

When you reach the other side
There you’ll find a golden crown
Pass only on its left side
And leave it there upon the ground

Walk on through trees
Though they may grow slowly dark
Soon a soft green light you’ll see
It will guide you down your path

Continue on through the night
And as the sun begins to rise
Angels in the trees take flight
Right there before your eyes

That’s when you’ll know you’ve found me
Here in paradise true
Where heaven rests among the trees
I’ll wait on the steps for you

Heroically Dead Deeds

By Aarron Mondello

1/12/2017

Ten days and nights
The battle raged on
A battle of which
Minstrels made songs
Telling the deeds
Of the heroically dead
Leaving out details
Of fear and death
Glorifying glamorising
The horrors of war
Convincing the gullible
That in death there is honour
But no honour can be found
In soiling ones pants
In the final split second
Before a killing blow lands
Can you have pride
In taking a life
Stealing a husband and father
From children and wife
Will you manage to forget
The many deaths at your feet
Or will the ghosts of the slain
Haunt you in sleep
An eye for an eye
Will leave the world blind
But those rich in power
Really don’t mind
If the world at large
Can no longer see
Anything except
Heroically dead deeds.
