River of life

Take into your liquid embrace

The soul of purest fire

Temper in your swift currents

The flame of pure desire

Wash away the sins of hate

In your churning foam

Cradle the fractured heart

Amongst your smooth white stones

Soothe the burns of the past

With rapid rushing waves

Take the elixir of life

And scour away the pain

Erode the banks of anger

With your winding course

And sing to the floundering ones

Who wait upon your shores

The peace of you

On shaky legs I stand

A pressure in my chest

Noises in my thoughts

That scarce allow me rest

Thumping in my ears

The rush of blood so loud

Like storm winds lashing heartstrings

With boiling, blackened clouds

That bare down upon on me with

The weight of a world behind

Yet when I hold your eyes with mine

Peace is what I find

Speeding years

He held her gently and began to cry

This twinkling apple in his eye

She breathed a softly whispered sigh

And his years began speeding by

Before he blinked she was walking

Next he knew she was always talking

Such joy she found in asking why

As his years went speeding by

On her first day of school he was full of pride

Tears of joy he shamelessly cried

It seemed the next day she stood shoulder high

As the years still went speeding by

She graduated and his heart swelled

He asked her to sit for a spell

So they sat and they talked for a little while

And his years continued speeding by

She was married with children and loving life

He remembered her glowing when she became a wife

Now his grandchildren filled his eyes

And her years were suddenly speeding by

Pockmarked Sky

Sitting here with my pen

Gazing in your eyes

Silhouetted in the holes

Of a deep blue pockmarked sky

Sitting here on a ledge

Learning how to fly

To the little windows in my head

That hold the pockmarked sky

Sitting here in the dark

So that’s what it’s like die

Wondering if I’ll ever reach

My fabled pockmarked sky

Sitting here on a cloud

Fondling my small knife

Sitting here by myself

Within a pockmarked sky

Promises

I’ll take a promise from you

And put it in my pocket

Just to keep it safe until

I buy a little golden locket

I put it safe inside

To see that it’s not broken

Hang from a chain around my neck

The promise that was spoken

I wear it all the time

Keep it safe against my heart

And take comfort from your promise

When it gets a little dark

When ever I’m not with you

Not standing by your side

I whisper sweet things to the locket

And the promise held inside

Ragged

Ragged

Give into my safe keeping

The coldness in your heart

With the warmth of all dreams sleeping

I will kindle the spark

That sits weak and sodden

Drenched in cradled woes

Baring marks of the downtrodden

Ragged in beggars clothes

Place into my open palms

The tears shed from your eyes

Let my whispered oaths balm

And guide you through the lies

Dripped from twisted tongues

To blanket the powdered snows

Setting fearful feet to run

Ragged in beggars clothes

In my pocket I’ll place you

Cracked and splintered sight

Borrow your eyes to borrow your view

Of a dusty night

Where broken dreams give comfort

To broken dreamers on death row

And lay down a starlit blanket

Over ragged beggars clothes

My brother wrote music and made this poem a whole new experience in song.

Of you’d like to hear it please head to my facebook page

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The music is beautiful

My Sleeping Loves

I see them sleeping peaceful
No lines upon their face
Features set blissful
Nowhere any trace
Can be found of stress
Or any heart sore care
When deep within their rest
None can touch them there
When one I love sleeps sound
Lost in a world of dreams
Affection swells profound
Bursting at the seams
And I see the true beauty
Of a soul travelling free
I feel it is my duty
To protect them in their dreams

Goodnight

I recall well the electrical moons
Grimy flickering street lights
I remember I caught you as you started to swoon
And watched you drift out of my life

Thunder crashed loud in the world around
I swear it called out your name
A wild deity’s calamitous shout
Asking you to His game

The rain fell gently pattering the streets
Slick and shining yellow
With such fear in your eyes you turned slowly to me
You skin gone ashen and sallow

And here I stand in the street again
I stand where you were stolen from me
There I can see your spirit dance in the rain
Weightless, forever carefree

You dance over to me, like gossamer lace
The wind blowing your ethereal hair
Up on your toes you gently kiss my face
A kiss like a tickle of air

You smile at me with bright searching eyes
As you fade again from my sight
Like a breath on my cheek there your fingers lie
In a reflective caress godnight

Betrayal and Love

By Aarron Mondello

9/2/2018

Oh fair love in days of old
Left alone to wander
Treacherous words of iron cold
Tore two hearts asunder

Poisoned is the ear of man
Maiden lay to weep
East to west he roamed the land
Countless miles beneath his feet

Built he did a hall of bone
His heart grew cruel and hard
In the dark he sat alone
Cold ash upon his hearth

A full year gone and three days more
Maiden stood and dreamt forgiveness
She set off one morn to find his home
Somewhere in untamed wilderness

Withered with age the years saw them
When she came upon his path
All the empty years that lay between them
Did not age her love

Yet still he stood with eyes afire
As she hobbled to his steps
Then cooled with pity was his ire
When he saw how she was bent

Wrinkled lips of Maiden touch
To wrinkled cheek of cheated Man
On pearl white steps two hearts pass
Forever hand in hand

Penned by the hand of Ryal Heartsquill, romantic poet during the reign of King Roekard Thayne. Poet to the King.

King Roekard Thayne was a romantic at heart and ever enjoyed stories and poetry of love lasting through the ages.

Ryal the poet came to the kings attention and King Roekard fell instantly in love with Ryal’s ability to take old tales and folklore and spin them anew with a strong theme of lasting love.

King Roekard named him Heartsquill and took Ryal into service until the end of the poets life.
