Weekend children

By Aarron Mondello

6/2/2018

The weekend is here
The kids are home
There’s laughter in the air
Nope. That’s screaming
And siblings fighting
Yelling “Hey that’s just not fair!”

The Little One
Starts acting up
For him it’s just no fun
When the others all
Shut their doors
And leave him on his own

So he packs it in
And chucks a fit
Then drops down on his bum
Starts to cry
And scream out loud
That he just wants his mum

But she’s at work
And he’s not happy
Neither is the Eldest Girl
His screaming fit
Outside her room
Is ruining her whole world

The middle two
Come out and ask
“Hey dad, what’s wrong with him?”
“Well ya buggered off
And shut your door
And will not let him in”

Miss Princess
Kneels down
But Little One is pissed
He takes a swipe
At her face
I’m so glad he missed

She starts to shout
But he turns around
“Oh dad I need wee wee”
But it’s too late
For as he stands
It’s running down his knees

The Oldest Boy
Looks disgusted
So far he’s stood there quiet
Now he snaps
At the Little One
“You should have used the toilet!”

Now there’s a puddle
I must clean
In the carpeted Hall
While all around me
All four are demanding
No wonder I’m going bald

I get it done
Now they’re all fighting
I decide its movie time
I put one on
Turn off the light
Now to get my bottle of wine

If I

By Aarron Mondello

30/1/2018

If I pulled out my Beating Heart Would you keep it beside your bed
Would you know that every beat was meant for you
Or would you forget you had it, another nick nack in your room

If I sold my soul to you
Would you keep it in your pocket
Would you spend your spare moments listening to its song
or would you put it down somewhere and ignore it

If I took the dreams of my imagination
Would you use them in your sleep for Fantastical exploration
Would you watch the world’s unfold in times of relaxation
Or would you turn your eyes away from my foreign destinations

If I laid my whole self prostrate on the floor
Succumbed to you in every way promised yours forever more
Would you wrap your arms about me like protective armour
Or would you walk all over me in your haste to reach the door

Will you? I will.

By Aarron Mondello

14/1/2018

Will you hold my hand
If I make a grab for yours
Will you gaze with me
Through hidden secret doors
Will share your smile
To brighten up my day
Will you help me chase
Echoes of my past away
Will you sit with me
In comfort in the sun
Will you join your life
To mine and become one

I will hold your hand
I already am in truth
I will show you hidden windows
When all the doors we’ve looked through
I will smile to see
You smile back at me
I will chase away your past
Our new memories will last
I will sit with you
Wherever you want me to
We are already one
Our life has just begun

Directions to Heaven

By Aarron Mondello

8/1/2018

Away and over the mountain pass
Beyond the domed sky blue
Be careful, travel never fast
My darling I’ll wait for you

Go slowly down the far slope
Where grow the Evergreens
There graze majestic antelope
In a land no eyes have seen

Come safely to the Forrest floor
Inviting, ever cool
And seek you out a clear fjord
Across a crystal  pool

When you reach the other side
There you’ll find a golden crown
Pass only on its left side
And leave it there upon the ground

Walk on through trees
Though they may grow slowly dark
Soon a soft green light you’ll see
It will guide you down your path

Continue on through the night
And as the sun begins to rise
Angels in the trees take flight
Right there before your eyes

That’s when you’ll know you’ve found me
Here in paradise true
Where heaven rests among the trees
I’ll wait on the steps for you

My Thoughts While I Eat My Pie.

By Aarron Mondello

I wrote this little one a few weeks ago when I was away from home and missing my special lady.

Sitting by the beach
Eating a hot pie
Staring out to sea
Where the ocean meets the sky
A small bird flying fast
Across the ocean blue
A fishing line is cast
And I think of you
Ripples on the surface
As the gentle breeze blows
Speed boat coming near us
Gradually it slows
By my side another car
Next to that another few
Today you feel so far
So I only think of you
And here a single man
Walking along barefoot
Slowly up the sand
While a lady reads her book
Two friends siting near
Discussing what to do
I’m close to enough hear
Yet I only think of you
Yellow buoys bobbing
Someone freestyle swimming
And my mind is throbbing
With thoughts of you this evening

A Horse Thief’s Tryst

By Aarron Mondello

26/12/2017

He came to town for a bit of a tryst
Behind the saloon they cuddled and kissed
Meeting secretly in the bars shadow
He left his hat when it was time to go
He mounted his horse and rode out East
Rejoicing in the feel of the powerful beast
She stood there alone and silently wept
Coveting his hat, a secret kept
Twelve days passed and she saw no sign
Of her lovers lips so supple and fine
The thirteenth day brought events unexpected
When she heard her lover had today been arrested
She fetched his hat and left her house
To bring it to him like a dutiful spouse
She reached the gaol around ten o’clock
And stood outside trying to straighten her frock
She took a deep breath and strode on in
Cast aside fears of their hidden sin
The news she heard warred with her belief
He was to be hung as a rotten horse thief
Four days later, in the town square
Gallows erected, everybody was there
They brought him out with a hood on his head
Ten minutes later her was hung and dead
Now she wears no frock, instead chaps and a vest
And stole a strong horse to ride out west.

Too Late

By Aarron Mondello

21/12/2017

It’s too late for the rain to fall
Down on a child’s tomb
Like tears wetting heavens floor
Soak into her earthen womb

It’s too late for the moon to light
The path for its nighttime kin
For here he sits in his room alone
Fresh cuts upon his skin

It’s too late for the sun to shine
Down on an old man’s face
Confused, scared and alone
He does not recall this place

It’s too late for the wind to blow
The hair of a sickly mother
One last time she closes her eyes
On this world and flies to another

But it’s not too late for those who are left
Behind to mend their hearts
For though the soul is now bereft
They remain forever in the hearts.

Rescued from the dark

By Aarron Mondello

14/12/2017

FOR MY LOVELY LADY, MY ANGEL, MY SAVIOUR.

He came down on tattered black wings
And blasted open my door
Screeching curses at all dead things
Promising me evermore
Shall I regret the day I drew breath
Or ever dared to dream
“Soon” he swore “you’ll long for death
And deliver yourself to me
I cried to him a refusal
“You shall not have me!”
But to my own ears my voice sounded thin
And his white eyes gleamed
He knew my lie better than I did
He saw what was in my mind
That in my darkness I wished to die
Hoping peace is what I’d find
But he knew also the time was wrong
I was fractured, yes, but whole
He heard the tentative whispers of my song
The tune strummed upon my soul
He sneered at me and knew full well
My time was drawing nigh
For on the past I too strongly dwelt
Searching for the present lie
He bowed to me then snapped his wings
Soon I lost him to the night
But now for as long as my music sings
I’d dream of his glowing eyes
Or so it was that I once thought
While living in deep shadow
My heart beat frantically, distraught
My life felt empty and hollow
Then so it happened while I was lost
Tired of living in the dark
With a thick coat of furry moss
Growing over my broken heart
That she came then and found me
Sitting in a shadow
Stepping lightly like a dream
She came to take me home
Her wings were golden, purest light
Her eyes clear sparkling blue
She knelt near me dispelling night
And whispered “I’ve come to rescue you”
I nodded, shrugged then looked away
I believed her words were lies
And I saw that a dawning day
Was spreading it’s warm light
When I followed the growing brightness
Back along its lines
I discovered I was frightened
When I saw it spread out from her eyes
She picked me up and cradled me
Comforting my fractured being
Such smiles as she bestowed upon me
I had rarely seen
I fell then into a light sleep
As she carried me to her world
Unknowingly I began to weep
When her golden wings unfurled
Silently she shook her wings
And seemed to float into the sky
Effortlessly riding the shifting winds
While I slept and cried
I awoke in an unfamiliar bed
Soft white goose feather down
In her lap she cradled my head
My shadow could not be found
Many moons have passed since then
Living in each others arms
And in the brightest love my shadow is penned
Where it can do little harm
This angel swooped down and saved me
From a devil that was me
She taught me about bravery
And how to let my light run free.

Her

By Aarron MONDELLO

12/12/2017

This little bit popped into my head while my lovely lady was reading fan fiction and I was gazing at her. It’s not much, but I hope you enjoy it.

Her

The quiet laid on thick
Like a winter woolen rug
Not the least bit uncomfortable
When silence is shared in love
I glance over and see her
My angel across the room
Balm for all my heart ache
Bane of all my woes
She sits and stares intently
At the story she is reading
I don’t think she sees me silently
Gazing and at her, peeking
The words of the world she’s reading
Play across her glasses lens
Will she look up at me and smile
When the next paragraph ends?
Probably
For she’s the one who always smiles
Even when she feels she’s can’t
Although sometimes she needs a little help
To locate her little laugh
Now she yawns she’s tired
Most likely off to bed
Where like usual till morning comes
She’ll sleep just like the dead.
