A Hallowed Night

Creaking floorboards in the hall

Shadows creeping up the walls

Ol’ Pumpkin head with eyes aflame

Screaming spooks gone insane

Laughter deep within the closet

Not game enough to stand and close it

Dark places filling hearts with dread

As smiling teeth glint under the bed

Hollow cries and night time howls

Silent fall the hunting owls

As through the back garden creeps

One who will steal you in your sleep

Warts and pus filled growths abide

On the witches leather hide

Over a sleeping town she flies

Cackling madly at the skies

In the light of a full yellow moon

A beast is born to hunger soon

Thick of fur with giant paws

Tearing fangs and rending claws

Here on this night the veil grows thin

Realm of life and death mingling

The faded ghost of a loved one lost

Pay respects or pay the cost

My Sleeping Loves

I see them sleeping peaceful
No lines upon their face
Features set blissful
Nowhere any trace
Can be found of stress
Or any heart sore care
When deep within their rest
None can touch them there
When one I love sleeps sound
Lost in a world of dreams
Affection swells profound
Bursting at the seams
And I see the true beauty
Of a soul travelling free
I feel it is my duty
To protect them in their dreams

Embrace of the Night

I feel the cool nights peaceful embrace
Ethereal arms wrapped about me
A breeze like gentle kisses caress
What skin I have laid bare
And under the smile of a full moon bright
His light piercing my every fiber
Standing as a statue carved in crystal
You’ll always find me there

Wrapped in the nights cool embrace.

Dark plane

A hollow wind blew through the cracks
Of the dusty, dry, grey ground
It sent a shiver down my back
That dreadful groaning sound

Below the black hill where I stood
Colourless spectres roamed
Towards a far off darkened woods
Down a broken road

Above my head the sky hung dreary
With heavy bottomed clouds
Just to see them made me weary
As they drizzled cold rain down

I turned up my collar against the rain
And started for the trees
For I live now on this dark astral plain
With its sorrowful moaning breeze

I gained the plateau at the base
Of they great tall darkened hill
There I met a man with out a face
Though he made for the forest still

With jerky movements in slow motion
They all trod their path on
I was hit with a startling notion
That all I saw was wrong

For here I moved as ever I had
In my waking life
In tattered rags all others were clad
Where I was clothed in white

I began to notice as I passed
All dead eyes turned to me
Fearful I began to run fast
Towards those ominous trees

A screeching and ungodly wailing
Split the eternal night
And against a wall of dead I was railing
With the tree coming nigh

My foot crossed into the forest
And every thing went black
I trembled awaiting some new horror
Then woke up lying on my back

My sheets were plastered to my skin
Sweat coated every inch of me
Through my window dead eyes peered in
A sea of ghosts awaiting me

Astral

Lonely Night

By Aarron Mondello

16/1/2018

Rain drops falling in her hair
Into their midst she blankly stares
Searching for what’s no longer there
For tonight her moon has died

Sadness fills her fit to bursting
In the darkness looming lurking
Are broken hearts tonight they’re hurting
It seems the sun has lied

The promise it made of warmth and love
Broken like the moon above
No loving arms around her hug
No comfort in this stormy night

Through the rain on broken feet
She walks slowly through the streets
And if her maker she does meet
From numb hands her heart he’ll pry

And still the rain runs down her face
Weaving runnels of silver lace
Covering up each painful trace
Behind this new mask she will hide.

Dream Demons

By Aarron Mondello

8/1/2018

Dreams like little movies
Played out in your sleep
If you dream of demons
Pray your soul will keep

They hunger for emotion
A delicacy is your fear
It’s probably already too late
If a demon is creeping near

Tormented souls, evil sprites
Forgotten things they’ll throw at you
You’ll be lucky to be alive
When the dream demons are through

Do not think of loved ones
Or things close to your heart
These things they’ll use against you
A silent knife in the dark

Dreams like horror movies
Played out in your head
If you dream of demons
Then you’re already dead

I Need Your Hand

By Aarron Mondello

28/12/2017

I need to hold your hand, please
While I open the curtains wide
I need the sunlight to help me ease
The cold unforgiving night

I’m scared and I need your hand, please
To help guide me to the window
Lest fate begins to jest and tease
And leaves me lying in the snow

I just need to know you’re there, dear
While I pull the curtains open
While I listen nervously for voices near
Vile and softly spoken

Please my love just give me your hand
I’m begging you from my knees
Kneeling here in the grit and sand
Help me open the curtains, please.

Locked In A Walk-in Robe

By Aarron Mondello

22/12/2017

You kept me locked in a walk-in robe
For a year, maybe more
While you lived in a prison of your own
Shamed and chained to the lounge room floor

The bolt on the inside was silent
If I was quick and quiet enough
With a soft little SNICK I’d slide it home
When the nights got, as you said, rough

Many nights I spent in there
Alone amongst the shoes
With dresses hanging above my head
Dresses that smelled of you

I’d cry myself to sleep most nights
Cradled by the dark
Then I’d sneak out like a mouse
The next morning to find you marked

I heard all of your excuses
All the lies that you told
I recognized them for what they were
Though I was just six years old

In the evening we’d hear the car
Coming down the road
I’d beg you to lock yourself
With me in the walk-in robe

Your eyes would fill with fear
As the storm blew down our door
And off I’d sneak, I felt weak
As I hid in the dark once more

I’d cringe when I heard the slaps
Bite my knuckles to keep silent
But there was nothing I could do
To save you from the violence

Sometimes I wasn’t quick enough
Those nights I’d feel the pain
And I’d also feel it was my own fault
That I was dragged into this game

I keep myself locked in a walk-in robe
Though the storm long since blew away
Many years I’ve lived in here
I’ll unlock the door some day

Too Late

By Aarron Mondello

21/12/2017

It’s too late for the rain to fall
Down on a child’s tomb
Like tears wetting heavens floor
Soak into her earthen womb

It’s too late for the moon to light
The path for its nighttime kin
For here he sits in his room alone
Fresh cuts upon his skin

It’s too late for the sun to shine
Down on an old man’s face
Confused, scared and alone
He does not recall this place

It’s too late for the wind to blow
The hair of a sickly mother
One last time she closes her eyes
On this world and flies to another

But it’s not too late for those who are left
Behind to mend their hearts
For though the soul is now bereft
They remain forever in the hearts.

Rescued from the dark

By Aarron Mondello

14/12/2017

FOR MY LOVELY LADY, MY ANGEL, MY SAVIOUR.

He came down on tattered black wings
And blasted open my door
Screeching curses at all dead things
Promising me evermore
Shall I regret the day I drew breath
Or ever dared to dream
“Soon” he swore “you’ll long for death
And deliver yourself to me
I cried to him a refusal
“You shall not have me!”
But to my own ears my voice sounded thin
And his white eyes gleamed
He knew my lie better than I did
He saw what was in my mind
That in my darkness I wished to die
Hoping peace is what I’d find
But he knew also the time was wrong
I was fractured, yes, but whole
He heard the tentative whispers of my song
The tune strummed upon my soul
He sneered at me and knew full well
My time was drawing nigh
For on the past I too strongly dwelt
Searching for the present lie
He bowed to me then snapped his wings
Soon I lost him to the night
But now for as long as my music sings
I’d dream of his glowing eyes
Or so it was that I once thought
While living in deep shadow
My heart beat frantically, distraught
My life felt empty and hollow
Then so it happened while I was lost
Tired of living in the dark
With a thick coat of furry moss
Growing over my broken heart
That she came then and found me
Sitting in a shadow
Stepping lightly like a dream
She came to take me home
Her wings were golden, purest light
Her eyes clear sparkling blue
She knelt near me dispelling night
And whispered “I’ve come to rescue you”
I nodded, shrugged then looked away
I believed her words were lies
And I saw that a dawning day
Was spreading it’s warm light
When I followed the growing brightness
Back along its lines
I discovered I was frightened
When I saw it spread out from her eyes
She picked me up and cradled me
Comforting my fractured being
Such smiles as she bestowed upon me
I had rarely seen
I fell then into a light sleep
As she carried me to her world
Unknowingly I began to weep
When her golden wings unfurled
Silently she shook her wings
And seemed to float into the sky
Effortlessly riding the shifting winds
While I slept and cried
I awoke in an unfamiliar bed
Soft white goose feather down
In her lap she cradled my head
My shadow could not be found
Many moons have passed since then
Living in each others arms
And in the brightest love my shadow is penned
Where it can do little harm
This angel swooped down and saved me
From a devil that was me
She taught me about bravery
And how to let my light run free.
