Words

Do you have some sad words

That I can put down on this page

Or perhaps some fiery angry words

That make you scream and rage

Where are your profound words

To make me stop and think

To challenge all my beliefs

And place them on the brink

What about your jealous words

Tinged with hues of green

Or melancholy bittersweet

Words of things you’ve seen

Can you find some words for me

Of joyful laughing times

Heady happy memories

That I can fashion into rhymes

Sit a while and tell me words

Of all things in your head

Words that I can twist and turn

Into tales to be read

Lost Storytellers

How I yearn for days or yore
A time I only know from tales
When storytellers would sit before
An audience in raptured silence

Youth to Gama’s and Gaffa’s aged
Would hear words come to life
Told with voice full of grace
Of adventure, war and glory

A time when ones imagination
Took them to worlds afar
Tellers wove for them destinations
And they rode there on captured hearts

How I yearn for those times again
That I know only from tales
When for an audience one would wend
A path through distant lands

The Last Storyteller

By Aarron Mondello

written 15/1/2018

There’s an old man silent somewhere
Sitting in his chair
On his tongue rests a tale
From when he was young and fair

Once he built worlds with his voice
To carry young and old
To faraway lands in unknown kingdoms
With the tales that he told

Over the years his voice grew hoarse
And lost its lilting song
No longer were his words quite enough
For an audience to hang upon

In his dotage the fancy took him
To tell his tales to the birds
The echo of elation rushed through him
As he tumbled out his words

Now even the birds have turned away
And fled frigid Winter air
He just mumbles his tales to himself
And audience that isn’t there
